When the government deserves a bad rap

An error on someone's server yesterday led them to sent out a blank email to hundreds of government employees. Rather than dismiss the email as a technical error, there were many 'reply all' responses that accomplished nothing other than to make those replying look like fools. It was so bad that our agency posted a bulletin titled "Email Storm", recommending that those receiving such emails simply erase them by hitting "SHIFT-DELETE".

Wow.

Here's just ONE example of some email traffic:

Please stop these emails also. I would appreciate it. Thank you.

I don't think this phenomenon is limited to government employees. I think it's the large population of old people who don't know how to properly utilize technology.

I am frequently bombarded by the reply-all emails here at work. Sometimes I'll reply to everyone too and make some stupid comment that has nothing to do with what they are talking about and also insert someones email who wasn't on the original list - so they start getting all the reply-alls too. Haha!
